Highbury College TV Workshops @ BOBTV 2010

Storytelling/interviewing

A look at how to tell your story through factual programmes. Workshop includes finding a story, what makes a good interview, what makes a good interviewee and what is your story worth (in terms of screen time). You will look at structuring (running order, framing and styles) 1 minute news pieces, 3 minute packages within a magazine programme and longer length documentaries through examples

1 * 2 hour session repeated twice

This workshop is aimed at people who want to make this type of content and will prepare them for putting together a pitch.

Magazine programmes

A look at the types and styles, who they are aimed at, why make them, how to structure a programme, techniques  (pre-recorded, live  elements, presentation style and programme look), planning and making a short film and timed interviews. You will look at a range of styles within this genre, including children’s magazine programmes.

1 * 2 hour session repeated twice

Documentary programmes

A look at the power of the story, types and styles of documentary and production techniques. Three key areas will be looked at:
Construct - create a story from a scenario eg Life Swap
Author -  personal journey
Current Affairs/Investigative style
Come along with an idea and we’ll help you develop it

Children’s television

A chaired discussion session looking at progress of charter for children’s programming and an update on children’s programming in UK

*All sessions will include a look at multi-platform delivery and how you can maximise your audience.
